INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF SCJ VOCATIONAL MINISTRY

Arrival in Lavras, state of Minas Gerais, was on Sunday evening, August 1st, with a very warm welcome, in typical Minas style, including music and a delicious dinner.

Forty-three Dehonians are participating, from 18 countries: 35 vocational directors and 8 in the support staff.

Opening Session

The meeting was officially opened by on Monday, August 2nd., by Father Tom Cassidy, General Counselor, in charge of the General Vocation Office. In a short address, he welcomed everyone and stressed the importance of this event. He also brought special greetings from the General Superior.

Father Cláudio Weber, BM Provincial, detailed the history of the event, from its first proposal to its actually being held in Lavras. He emphasized the following items:

• The meeting is in step with the Plan "We the Congregation."
• Choosing the month of August in view of the fact that in Brazil this traditionally is a month dedicated to vocations in the Brazilian Catholic Church.
• Moreover, the 1st. National Congress of Vocations is about to be held in Itaici, state of São Paulo (September 2 to 5).
• Keaping with the Itaici theme, we selected the Biblical text of Mark 10:49. Our theme is "Courage. Rise, Jesus is calling you."

Eucharistic Celebration

The first day ended with the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Fr. Tom Cassidy, aided by Fr. Cláudio Weber and Fr. John Kelly, a young priest from Ireland. The Eucharist had a family touch uniting many languages in a single prayer. A fine presence was the musical participation of a group of young seminarians from the local SCJ Minor Seminary. In his homily, Fr. Tom. Cassidy, based on the Gospel of Saint Mark 10:46-52 (the blind man Bartimaeus), spoke of the need to be liberated from the hardness of modern society, and the importance of being in awe of Jesus, following Him with enthusiasm, as did Bartimaeus.

Session d'ouverture:

Le P. Tom Cassidy, conseiller général en charge de la pastorale des vocations, a ouvert officiellement cette rencontre le lundi 2 août. Dans u bref discours, il a souhaité la bienvenue à chacun et mis en évidence l'importance de cet événement. Il a aussi transmis les salutations du Supérieur Général.

Le P. Cláudio Weber, supérieur provincial de la BM, a retracé l'histoire de cette réunion, depuis la première proposition jusqu'à sa réalisation à Lavras. Il a mis en lumière les points suivants:

• La rencontre est en parfaite harmonie avec le Projet "Nous, la Congrégation".
• Le mois d'août a été choisi parce que, traditionnellement au Brésil, l'Église consacre ce mois aux Vocations.
• De plus, le premier Congrès National des Vocations aura lieu bientôt à Itaici, São Paulo, du 2 au 5 septembre.
• En lien d'ailleurs avec le thème choisi pour ce Congrès d'Itaici, le texte de Marc 10:49 a été choisi comme source d'inspiration: "Courage, lève-toi, Jésus t'appelle".

Célébration eucharistique

Cette première journée s'est terminée avec une célébration eucharistique présidé par le P. Tom Cassidy, assisté du P. Cláudio Weber et du P. John Kelly, un jeune prêtre d'Irlande. Cette célébration fut marqué d'un caractère familial, unissant différentes langues dans une prière unanime. La présence d'un groupe musical de jeunes séminaristes du Séminaire mineur SCJ local fut particulièrement appréciée. Dans son homélie, à partir du texte de Marc 10:46-52 (l'aveugle Bartimée) le P. Tom Cassidy a parlé de la nécessité d'une libération d'une société moderne insensible, et de l'importance de s'émerveiller devant la personne de Jésus, le suivant avec enthousiasme, à l'exemple de Bartimée.

Seduta di apertura:

Il p. Tom Cassidy, consigliere generale, incaricato della pastorale delle vocazioni, ha aperto ufficialmente l`incontro lunedì 2 agosto. Nel suo breve discorso, ha dato il benvenuto a ciascuno e sottolineato l`importanza di questo evento. Ha inoltre trasmesso i saluti del Superiore Generale.

Il p. Claudio Weber, superiore provinciale BM, ha tracciato una breve storia di questa riunione, dalla prima proposta fino alla realizzazione a Lavras. Ha messo in luce i punti seguenti:

• L`incontro è in sintonia con il progetto "Noi congregazione".
• Il mese di agosto è stato scelto perché la Chiesa, in Brasile, tradizionalmente lo consacra alle Vocazioni.
• Inoltre, siamo nell`imminenza del primo Congresso Nazionale delle Vocazioni, che avrà luogo a Itaici, stato di São Paulo, dal 2 al 5 settembre.
• Ispirandosi al tema scelto per il congresso d`Itaici, è stato scelto come guida il testo di Mc 10,49: "Coraggio, alzati, Gesù ti chiama".

Celebrazione eucaristica.

Questa prima giornata si è conclusa con una celebrazione eucaristica presieduta dal p. Tom Cassidy, assistito da p. Claudio Weber e da p. John Kelly, un giovane sacerdote irlandese. La celebrazione ha avuto un carattere familiare, unendo lingue diverse in una preghiera unanime. La presenza del gruppo musicale dei giovani seminaristi del locale seminario minore SCJ è stata particolarmente apprezzata. Nella sua omelia, sul testo di Mc 10,46-52 (il cieco Bartimeo), p. Tom Cassidy ha parlato della necessità della liberazione di una società moderna insensibile e dell`importanza di lasciarsi meravigliare dalla persona di Gesù, seguirlo con entusiasmo, sull`esempio di Bartimeo.

Sessão de abertura

O encontro foi aberto oficialmente na Segunda-feira, dia 02 , às 15:00 h, pelo Pe. Tom Cassidy, Conselheiro Geral, responsável pelo Setor Vocacional. Em breves palavras, ele acolheu a todos, destacou a importância do evento e trouxe a saudação do Superior Geral.

Pe. Cláudio Weber, Provincial BM,. detalhou o histórico do evento, desde a primeira proposta até sua realização hoje em Lavras. Acentuou sobretudo:

• O encontro está em sintonia com o Projeto "Nós Congregação".
• A escolha do mês de agosto pela tradição da Igreja no Brasil celebrá-lo como mês vocacional.
• Além disso, está para acontecer no Brasil o 1º Congresso Nacional das Vocações: será de 02 a 05 de setembro, em Itaici, São Paulo.
• Em consonância com o mês vocacional e o Congresso, assumiu-se o tema para o encontro: "Coragem! Levanta-te, Ele te chama". (Mc 10,49)

Celebração Eucarística

O primeiro dia terminou com a Celebração Eucarística presidida pelo Pe. Tom Cassidy, acompanhado por Pe. Cláudio Weber e Pe. John Kelly, jovem sacerdote da Irlanda. A eucaristia teve um toque familiar unindo muitas línguas numa mesma prece. Uma presença simpática foi o grupo de seminaristas jovens do Seminário SCJ local na animação das músicas. Na homilia, Pe. Tom Cassidy, baseado no Evangelho segundo Marcos 10, 46-52 (Cego Bartimeu), falou sobre a necessidade de uma libertação da dureza da ideologia moderna e a importância de encantar-se por Jesus seguindo-o com entusiasmo como fez Bartimeu.
