New Bishop Named
Fr. Wilson Tadeu Jönk, scj
Concluding the second session of the General Chapter, Fr. José Ornelas de Carvalho, superior general, announced that one of its delegates was to be named bishop today (June 11): Fr. Wilson Tadeu Jönk.
Bishop-elect Jönk, 51, is a member of the South Brazilian Province and has been named to serve in the archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro. He professed his first vows in 1972 and was ordained in 1977. Besides his seminary studies, he has also done graduate work in psychology. His ministries have included formation and provincial administration.
Speaking to the chapter, he said that accepting the appointment "is difficult, but also joyful... I accept it with gratitude that my roots are firmly embedded in the congregation...
"Everything that I am, all that I have received is a result of the congregation, and so it is a great joy to share this new stage of my life with you."
He also thanked his province for its support, and especially, his provincial superior, Fr. Osnildo Klann. "We have worked together for a long time and I am grateful to him."
Concluding, the bishop-elect said that "My weaknesses and insecurities become obvious to me in times like this, but so too does my faith." And so too, he added, is the strength he finds in his brother SCJs.

Ao concluir a segunda sessão do Capítulo Geral, o Pe. José Ornelas de Carvalho, Superior Geral, anunciou que um dos delegados tinha sido nomeado bispo hoje (11 de Junho): O Pe. Wilson Tadeu Jönk.
O bispo recém-eleito tem 51 anos, é menro da Província do Brasil do Sul e foi nomeado Bispo Auxiliar do Rio de Janeiro.
Dirigindo algumas palavras aos capitulares o novo bispo disse que ao aceitar esta nomeação "é difícil, e ao mesmo tempo alegre... Aceitei com gratidão porque as minhas raízes estão profundamente embebidas na Congregação..."
"Tudo o que eu sou, tudo o que eu tenho recebido provém da Congregação, e por isso é uma grande alegria partilhar convosco esta nova etapa da minha vida". Agradeceu também à sua Província pelo seu apoio, e especialmente ao seu Provincial, o Pe. Osnildo Klann. "Trabalhámos juntos durante muito tempo e eu estou-lhe muito grato".
Ao concluir o novo bispo disse que "as minhas fraquezas e inseguranças tornam-se mais evidentes em ocasiões como esta, mas tudo isso constitui também a minha fé". E, acrescentou, que é também a força que encontra nos seus irmãos da Congregação.
